National Evaluation of Pharmacotherapies for Opioid Dependence - Main Findings and Recommendations (presention package)

Print page  Decrease text size  Increase text size

The primary aim of the slide presentation package is to disseminate the main findings and recommendations of the NEPOD project. The presentation provides an opportunity to reflect on research that has been conducted in Australia since 1996 investigating alternative methods for treating opioid dependence, changes in practice that have occurred in response to this work, and areas for further research. NEPOD involved the collection of a substantial amount of data and this presentation can be a broad overview only.

October 2004

The presentation is primarily for specialist drug and alcohol workers currently involved or having some experience with the delivery of pharmacotherapies in treating opioid dependence (e.g. nurses, prescribers, social workers, researchers), and could also be used as an information resource for prospective pharmacotherapy providers.

The intended presenters of the package would be those with some experience with the NEPOD project, preferably clinicians and researchers involved in the trials or those trained by the former. Presenters are encouraged to talk about their own experiences with the pharmacotherapies, and changes in clinical practice that have occurred since the completion of the trials. There is some flexibility within the package and choice of slides and presentation styles can be adapted to suit the audience. The presentation can be utilised as a stand-alone information resource, or incorporated into existing training packages.

The package includes:

Guide for Presenters (PDF 109 KB)

PowerPoint Slide Presentation (PPT456 KB): comprising 30 slides, plus presentation notes for each slide located in the ‘notes page’ of PowerPoint. Slides no. 7-10 present basic information about the pharmacotherapies that may be unnecessary revision for some audiences. Slides 20, 21, 23 and 24 present detailed results of the cost and cost-effectiveness analyses that may be considered too specialised for other audiences. The presentation notes are intended primarily for the presenter, but could also be used as handouts for the audience (select the ‘print’ option from the ‘file’ pull-down menu, and select ‘notes pages’ at the ‘print what’ prompt).
